What kind of fund this is
A fund that holds oil futures contracts, not barrels. Rolling those contracts each month means it can drift away from the oil price over time.
An ETF (exchange-traded fund) is a basket of investments that trades on the stock exchange like a single share. Its price moves with whatever it holds, and the fund company takes a small yearly fee out of the fund. ETF or stock: the difference.
